"An Introduction to finding Documents for your Ancestors"

This class will introduce how to locate documents containing information on your ancestors, including birth, death, and census records. We will discuss different methods of locating these documents, how to save them to your ancestor’s profile in FamilySearch, and other resources that can help point your research in the right direction.


Presenter: Camille Capener

Camille has been researching her own family history since 2016. After teaching herself all she could on her own she decided to return to school in order to learn more. She obtained an associate's degree in Family History Research and Genealogy from BYU-Idaho in 2020. She now serves in her local church ward, helping others discover the joy of learning about their family. Camille was raised in Loveland, Colorado. She now lives in Cleveland, Ohio where her husband Aaron is attending dental school. Camille and Aaron have a two-year-old boy named Russell, and another baby due in December.

"A comparison of Ancestry and Family Search"

Alan will compare and contrast the two applications, including the following:

Where each has some things in common, each has its own strengths and depending on one’s preferences its own weaknesses. This presentation will explain the basic features of each and how they differ from one another.

Presenter: Alan Jones

Alan Has been doing genealogy research for 49 years. His education included a degree in Computer Science. He worked all his life in the computer software arena. This includes being a tester for various genealogy programs such as FamilySearch and many personal computer genealogy software programs. His training has included many seminars, training classes, and spending time in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Working in Family History Centers in various states. When he has time, he is working on his own and other peoples’ family trees, speaking at genealogy & historical societies. He also has done indexing both for the 1940 and 1950 US Census and many other projects. Now retired he lives in NE Ohio. Alan says his work is because of his love of our ancestry. We all have progenitors who deserve our respect and to be acknowledged.

"Tree Surgery"

When a branch of your family tree has an error, how do you fix it? Or better yet, how could you avoid the errors, to begin with? Cynthia shares her advice.


Presenter: Cynthia Turk

Cynthia is a Certified Genealogist who obtained her credential through the Board for Certification of Genealogists in 2014. She has attended lectures, webinars, and conferences extensively. She has participated in week-long institutes for in-depth learning. Cynthia is President of Lake County Genealogical Society and has been on that board since 1994. She is also Past President of North East Ohio Computer-Aided Genealogical Society. She is a member of the Ohio Genealogical Society, Association of Professional Genealogists and its Forensic SIG, and many other organizations. She has been the project chair for cemetery inscriptions and many Lake County indexing projects. She is the author of Scranton Road Cemetery: Introduction, Inscriptions, and Interments. Cynthia is also the host of the Lake County OHGenWeb site and co-host for Cuyahoga. Additionally, she volunteers for Unclaimed Persons and FamilySearch indexing.

What resources am I not taking advantage of? A review of FamilySearch resources which will enhance your research and create interest for those who may not be as interested in family history as you are.


Presenter: Todd Albrecht

Todd is a native Clevelander, having grown up in Avon Lake and currently residing in South Euclid. He is married and the father of three and grandfather to one. Todd has been researching his family history for over 30 years and loves all things associated with Genealogy. Besides working on his own research, Todd is a local family history consultant, a FamilySearch indexer, and an arbitrator. When not working on some aspect of family history, you may find Todd talking to someone about some aspect of family history.
